Happy Thursday! Today’s
article is about unsaturated fats/oils. You know by now that fats/oils are a
class of macronutrients essential to
the human body. It is for this reason that the American Heart Association
(AHA) recommends getting 25-35% of calories from fat daily. Why is there so much controversy
around the topic of fat consumption you might ask? The answer lies in the type
of fat along with characteristics such as amount consumed. Unsaturated fats are
the go to guys for a healthy NR.
Health
benefits: Made of
chains of carbon molecules connected by one double bond (monounsaturated) or more (polyunsaturated),
unsaturated fats are famous for their ability to lower LDL "bad" cholesterol, while
increasing HDL "good" cholesterol, which is important for heart and overall body health.
Food sources: Food sources of unsaturated fats include vegetable oils (eg: olive, canola oils, etc..), nuts, seeds, fatty fish (salmon), and avocadoes to name a few.
Well, that's it for today guys! I'll talk to you tomorrow.
Xoxo,
Patience

Thanks so much. My husband has to (sigh) gain 10 pounds, so your information on good saturated fats is timely.
